Garage doors are defined by their
gear mechanism i.e. up and over canopy, up and over retractable,
non and insulated roller doors and non and insulated sectional doors.
The canopy door is in effect the standard
gear mechanism and is used on around 80% of garage doors fitted.
Easy to operate and the most cost effective, they are generally
used when automation is not a consideration.
Retractable gear is used on all double up
and over garage doors and in single doors when automation is required.
With Apex maximiser gear, no effective loss in drive -through width
is sustained on single sized doors. Since they have to be pushed
fully home to avoid the risk of coming down, retractable doors are
less suitable than the canopy door for children (the latter are
stable at the height they are operated to except in high winds when
it must be fully opened)
Non-insulated roller doors operate vertically
and come in a variety of colours of maintenance free plastisol finishes.
As a car can be parked hard against it, the effective length of
the garage and drive-way is increased. Manual operation is exceptionally
light and they are available automated.
Insulated roller doors are used where heat
loss is a consideration e.g. integral garage, work bench in garage
etc. They are made from hollow aluminium slats with insulation material
between and come in a variety of maintenance-free finishes. They
are supplied only in automatic mode.
Non insulated sectional doors also operate
vertically and hence have the same advantages as the roller door,
the available colours are white or brown (without entailing a heavy
cost) but they are available in horizontal slats or Georgian squares.
Double sized sectional doors are easier to operate manually than
up and overs and they are readily automated. They feature all -round
draught proof seals.
Insulated sectional doors work in exactly
the same way as non-insulated doors. They have an insulated layer
sandwiched between metal outer and inner skins.
